🌟 BECOME A MENTOR OR VOLUNTEER 🌟

Mentors For Fatherless Children And Abused Families (MFCAF)

📅 Time Commitment:

  • 2 hours per session (3–5 PM)
  • Tuesdays, Wednesdays, or both (preferred)
  • 12-week cycle (minimum)

📍 Locations: Pine Hills • Oak Ridge • Engelwood NCFs

✅ REQUIREMENTS

  • 18+ years old
  • Clean background check
  • 16-hour MFCAF training provided
  • Reliable transportation
  • Commitment to cultural competency

📚 TRAINING INCLUDES (16 HOURS)

✔ Trauma-Informed Care (4 hrs)
✔ Emotional Intelligence (4 hrs)
✔ Youth Development (3 hrs)
✔ Cultural Competency (2 hrs)
✔ Crisis Response & Safety (2 hrs)
✔ Documentation & Confidentiality (1 hr)

What It Takes to Be a Mentor:

Volunteer & Mentor Requirements

Volunteer/Mentor Profile

  • Time Commitment: 2 hours per session (3:00-5:00 PM)
  • Schedule Options:
    • Tuesdays only (1 day/week)
    • Wednesdays only (1 day/week)
    • Both days (2 days/week - preferred)
  • Location Flexibility: Must be willing to travel to rotating NCF sites
  • Minimum Commitment: 3-month program cycle (12 weeks)

Required Qualifications

  • Background Check: Clean background check required
  • Training: Complete 16-hour MFCAF mentor training program
  • Age: 18+ years old
  • Transportation: Reliable transportation to reach all 3 NCF sites
  • Cultural Competency: Commitment to serving diverse communities

Training Components (16 Hours Total)

  1. Trauma-Informed Care (4 hours)
  2. Emotional Intelligence Facilitation (4 hours)
  3. Youth Development & Engagement (3 hours)
  4. Cultural Competency & Anti-Bias (2 hours)
  5. Crisis Response & Safety (2 hours)
  6. Documentation & Confidentiality (1 hour)

Mentor Role Responsibilities

Individual Mentoring (45 minutes per session):

  • Facilitate 1:1 emotional intelligence skill-building
  • Provide supportive relationship and guidance
  • Complete session documentation within 24 hours
  • Maintain consistent, positive relationship with assigned youth

Group Activities (45 minutes per session):

  • Co-facilitate group learning activities
  • Support peer interaction and collaboration
  • Assist with behavior management and engagement
  • Model positive social skills and emotional regulation

Family Engagement:

  • Communicate progress to families appropriately
  • Support family involvement in program activities
  • Respect cultural differences and family values
  • Maintain professional boundaries
