What It Takes to Be a Mentor


Mentoring with Mentors for Fatherless Children & Abused Families (MFCAF) is an opportunity to make a lasting difference in the lives of youth and families across Orange County. Our mentors provide encouragement, accountability, and positive guidance while helping participants build confidence, resilience, and healthy life skills.


Our Mentors Are Expected To:


  • Commit to serving with integrity, consistency, and professionalism.
  • Be a positive role model and lead by example.
  • Build supportive, respectful, and appropriate mentoring relationships.
  • Maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries.
  • Communicate effectively with program staff and participants.
  • Support MFCAF's mission of Building Peace • Love • Unity — One Family at a Time.


Mentor Training & Support


Every mentor receives orientation, ongoing coaching, and professional development designed to prepare them for success. Required training includes:

  • Trauma-Informed Care
  • Youth Mental Health First Aid
  • Adult Mental Health First Aid
  • HIPAA & Confidentiality
  • Human Trafficking Awareness
  • CPR/First Aid (as applicable)
  • Crisis Intervention & Community Resources
  • Program Policies and Safety Procedures


What Mentors Do


  • Encourage personal growth and goal achievement.
  • Help youth develop confidence, leadership, and emotional intelligence.
  • Support healthy decision-making and life skills.
  • Connect participants with appropriate community resources when needed.
  • Foster safe, positive, and empowering relationships.
